Recruit X-mas break
I start on Sept 16th. So my time at ITC Catterick will extend into christmas time. This year our family has big plans and they were wondering what would be my schedule would be. I heard we got a little time off, but that's about it. I know this is a case of puting the cart before the horse, but if a...

Re: Rifle POLL for fun
I voted Mauser. The thing is unbelievably accurate, easy to shoot, and reliable. Also nothing like an 8mm Mauser round to ensure your target is not getting back up. 8) Although to be fair, I've never fired any Enfields, so I don't actually know how I would sway if I had, but it is cert...

Just passed PRAC
I just passed PRAC and although there is already a lot on here about PRAC that is fairly recent. I just thought I'd offer a more updated source of experience to anyone who has questions. The only advice I give outright is don't attend PRAC unless you are seeing AT LEAST a 9 min flat on your 1.5, bec...

Re: application process
When I started my app I was 21. I turned 23 last week, but that's a pretty extreme scenario. I've had a lot of unfortunate delays.

Re: next intake
I might be on that, too. I've got PRAC on tues, but I caught a nasty bug off this bloke at ADSC and I'm not 100% so I might tell my recruiters to push me back one. I know that I'll have push through these sort of things later, but I don't see the sense in going to an assessment when you are not full...

Re: Can mold delay my application?
Or are you commenting on the mold thing specifically? (I'm not sure. I'm a little sleep deprived.)

Re: Can mold delay my application?
I don't have health problems. I damaged my ankle on an army test run, just happened to put my foot in a hole. That has now made a full recovery. I don't actually have a heart problem, I was cleared by docs and the reason I'm having problems now is because I live with my infirmed father in a house th...

Can mold delay my application?
Before I get in to the crux of the question I feel it is prudent to explain my situation. I have been trying to get into the Para's for two years and through no fault of my own I have been delayed at every juncture: a massive ankle injury, lost paperwork, the famous ADSC heart murmur, etc etc. The h...

Re: Can anyone help me?
Well, you should know that the fitness standard is conducted over 1.5 miles; not 2 miles. (The Americans do a 2 mile standard) At ADSC the warm up is basic. It shouldn't tire you out too much. Traditionally, you had to run it in 9:18, but according to the officer that briefed me at ADSC it has been ...

Good news....kinda...
A recent article about the reduction of spending in the armed forces has announced that certain regiments are to be declared untouchable and will not suffer cuts during this "adjustment process". The Paras are on this list. You can read the whole article here: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/ne...

I think before the crusades they just used a variation of the royal standard.

Re: Infantry regiment choices
Good to know. I'm just trying to gauge where I'm at, you know? And along the conversation more in line with the thread topic. I have a mate who has two brothers; one in the Paras and the other in the Coldstream Guards. The one in the Coldstream Guards originally wanted to go Para as well, but for so...

And they said that was too slow? That does not bode well for me... I'm rather consistantly getting 8:55 - 9:00
